About This Project

This project explores the use of computer vision and motion sensing to create a system where real-world hand movements control a virtual hand in real time. Using MediaPipe, the software detects hand landmarks through a camera feed and translates those movements into digital interactions on screen. The goal is to demonstrate a touchless interface that enables more natural human-computer interaction, with potential applications in accessibility, gaming, virtual environments, training simulations, and gesture-based control systems.

Our Vision

Over the next three months, this project aims to develop a functional prototype that demonstrates real-time motion sensing through hand tracking and a responsive virtual hand interface. The focus is on validating the feasibility of gesture-based interaction using MediaPipe and computer vision technologies while exploring how natural hand movements can be translated into digital control. By the end of the development period, the project will showcase a working system that highlights the potential of touchless interfaces for accessibility, interactive media, and human-computer interaction research.

Why It Matters

This work is driven by the belief that technology should adapt to human behavior rather than forcing humans to adapt to machines. By enabling interaction through natural hand movement, the project promotes inclusivity, accessibility, and more intuitive digital experiences. It reflects a broader shift toward human-centered design, where systems respond to how people naturally communicate and interact with the world. The project connects to larger human needs for accessibility, expression, and seamless interaction, emphasizing that future technology should empower users and reduce barriers rather than create them.
